Coffee Grinders

La Cafetiere Coffee GrinderYou can’t beat freshly ground coffee!  Imagine the aroma and flavour from coffee that has just been ground – how delicious!

It is important that you select the level of grind to suit your style of coffee - the quicker the coffee making technique then the finer the grind.  For instance an espresso requires a very fine grind, while a coarser grind is required for a filter coffee.  If you use a fine grind for filter coffee your coffee will be bitter, while using a coarse grind for espresso will result in a weak coffee.

There are two types of coffee mill or grinder – a blade grinder and a burr grinder.  Blade grinders tend to only be electric while burr grinders are available as both manual and electric machines.

A blade grinder is the lower priced electrical option.  The blade rotates to chop the beans.  This results in an inconsistent grind that is most suitable for cafetières or filter coffee machines.

A burr grinder has two conical shaped discs that spin against each other crushing the coffee beans between the discs.  This produces a consistent grind that is suitable for all types of coffee maker especially espresso machines.  Choose between the ease of an electric machine or the rewarding work of a manual grinder.
