Electric Juicers
An electric juicer will help you enjoy the health benefits and delicious taste of fresh juice from fruit and vegetables.
There are three main types of electric juicer – the press, centrifugal and masticating.
The Juice Press
The juice press works only on citrus fruit. It is a similar shape to traditional lemon squeezer but a lid presses the fruit while an electric motor spins the base so that all the juice is squeezed out of the fruit.
The Centrifugal Juicer
The juice is extracted by centrifugal force. Chopped fruit and vegetables are placed in the juicer which is made up of a spinning basket that grates and mashes the food, reducing it to a pulp. The waste food, or pulp, is collected in the basket while the juice is forced through into a container.
The Masticating Juicer
The masticating juicer works slower and more effectively as it mashes and grinds the food into a pulp and squeezes out the juice. A masticating juicer is more efficient and the cooler process is better at preserving nutrients. Also, it is possible to keep putting food through the masticating juicer until all the juice as been extracted – whereas with a centrifugal juicer the food can only be put through the machine once. Hence it needs less fruit and vegetables than the centrifugal juicer to produce the same amount of juice. Masticating juicers will also extract juice from a wider range of fruit of vegetables including wheat grass and green leaves.
Masticating juicers can be used for preparing other food such as baby food, soups, grinding meat and making peanut butter.
What’s more the machine of the masticating juicer is quieter than that of a centrifugal juicer AND the parts are easier to clean.
