Ice Cream Machines

Ice Cream MachineImpress your family and friends with your own home-made ice creams and sorbets – try fresh strawberry ice cream, a creamy vanilla ice or a refreshing berry sorbet – they are so quick and easy to make!

The method for making your own ice cream varies.  A typical recipe will add flavouring to an egg custard.  While for others you just process your chosen fruit and add cream, sugar and other flavourings.  The mixture is placed in the ice cream maker where it is churned and frozen in about twenty minutes - the soft, fresh ice cream is then ready to eat or it can be popped in the freezer to harden or store.

All electric ice cream machines churn the mixture; the difference between the machines is how they freeze the ice cream.  The lower priced machine requires you to pre-freeze the bowl for up to 24 hours.  These machines make good ice cream but you have to plan ahead and be sure to have sufficient space in your freezer for the pre-freezing.

The alternative machine is the dearer option; these machines include a built-in freezing unit so that they freeze and churn at the same time.  The ice cream will be frozen in about twenty minutes.

Some machines make the ice cream in a container that can be stored in the freezer, while in others you have to decant the ice cream into a serving dish or freezer container.  You can put the ice cream mixture into silicone moulds and create attractive individual servings.  Alternatively a porcelain or stoneware dish (stored with cling film on top and placed inside a freezer bag) is both freezer safe and an attractive dish at the table.

An ice cream maker provides an opportunity for an infinite range of delicious desserts.
